Dismantling Workbench Location

Quick Answer

An existing Dismantling Workbench is inside the Church in Permafrost. Use it to break down salvage while you are still waiting to unlock a station for your own base. An item saying it can be broken down needs that bench; you cannot finish the job from the inventory alone.

The building is the Church at House Camp, where you meet Anna. A precise indoor coordinate or left-and-right room route for the bench is not confirmed here, so identify the station by its name or interaction once you are inside.

Identify the correct Church building

Look for the building with the LOCAL CHURCH sign on its front lawn. The main quest The Way Home sends you there to speak with Anna. Its front entrance has double doors and steps leading down onto the snow.

Those landmarks are more useful than searching every abandoned building in House Camp for a generic worktable. Your destination is the Church interior, not the fast travel post on the lawn.

Church fast travel post with sleds and the Press F Travel prompt

The Church post is an exterior landmark. The dismantling bench is inside the Church, not at these sleds.

If you are already standing beside the Church sleds, look toward the Church building and go through its front entrance. The post sits in the open snow a short distance in front of the steps; it is a travel point, not the dismantling station.

Find the dismantling station inside

Once indoors, inspect the available stations until you find the dismantling bench. Do not select a station only because it resembles a general crafting table. The useful confirmation is an interaction or station name that identifies dismantling.

The currently available location information establishes inside the Church. It does not establish a specific floor, room corner, orientation, or coordinate. If you are using a screenshot to compare your surroundings, match the station and nearby interior landmarks instead of treating an unverified direction as a required route.

Before interacting, have the salvage you intend to break down with you. Arriving at the correct station without its input can make the bench appear useless when the missing condition is simply the item you left in storage.

Bring an item with the right output

For Scrap, Metal Junk is the relevant salvage input. Other items can mention Cloth or different dismantling results in their descriptions. Read the description and check the station's output so you do not consume something expecting the wrong material.

A short first visit should answer two questions: whether you have identified the dismantling bench, and whether the item you brought produces the ingredient your recipe needs. The exact conversion quantity for every item is not established here, so inspect the available output before breaking down a large batch.

Keep useful equipment out of an experimental dismantling attempt. Start with the salvage you deliberately collected for that purpose and verify the result. There is no need to dismantle your current tool just to prove the station works.

Activate the nearby travel point for return visits

The Church also has an existing fast travel point outside. Look for a wooden post, a notice board and lantern, with sleds at the foot of the post. Before activation, snow covers the sleds and board.

Approach until the Fast Travel: Church name and Press F Unlock prompt appear, then press F. The prompt changes to Press F Travel and the post becomes available as a destination. You need another unlocked travel point to make a journey between them.

This is useful for a later return with more salvage. Unlocking the sleds does not unlock the dismantling recipe for your base, and the two interactions should not be confused.

Use the existing bench before planning a base unlock

The buildable Dismantling Workbench is tied to quest progression. A current named unlock quest and complete build recipe are not confirmed here. If the blueprint is missing, do not treat a generic blueprint list as a reason to buy unrelated unlocks.

Use the Church station for the immediate job, then continue your active progression toward the base version. That lets you turn the salvage already in your inventory into a useful material without making the entire crafting chain depend on an unverified reward.

After dismantling, check the output and carry the needed ingredient to the next recipe. Materials kept in nearby containers are not automatically counted as materials in your inventory. The location task is complete when you can identify and use the Church's dismantling bench, rather than merely reach the Church lawn.
